Where History meets Nature: Spirit Rock and McNeill Estate Conservation Area: A visit to Spirit Rock and McNeill Estate Conservation Area will bring you to the base of Spirit Rock via a winding staircase down the Niagara Escarpment and a short hike on the waterfront Bruce Trail. Legend has it that an Indian maiden fell in love with a chief from an enemy tribe and her family turned against her. In despair, she threw herself over the cliff at Spirit Rock. It’s said that when the lighting and angles are just right, the face of the maiden can be seen in the cliffs from below. Above the escarpment, the remains of the McNeill Estate still stand. Visitors can view the ruins and read the interpretive signage to learn more about the McNeill family and the early settlers of Bruce County. The property has over 5 kilometres of hiking trails and is open from late spring to fall.

Wiarton Willie’s World of Whimsy: Pay a visit to Wiarton Willie, Canada’s most famous prognosticating groundhog. With both a multi-day festival and the celebration surrounding Prediction Morning, Wiarton is the place to be on February 2. But if you’re in Wiarton outside of that famous February window, you can still play tribute to Wiarton Willie with a visit to his den in Bluewater Park. Take a photo with the Wiarton Willie Statue or run through the water features at the splash pad featuring a Willie water feature.
